What is this course about?

 

 In this 1-day professional learning workshop you will learn about the core terminology and concepts of the new NSW English K-2 Syllabus. Through a range of practical and hands-on activities teachers build their confidence and professional knowledge of the content in reading and spelling. We will also understand how to interpret stage outcomes in K-2 and what strategies can be implemented in the classroom to support students in achieving those outcomes. The course focuses on the phonological awareness, phonic knowledge, fluency, spelling and vocabulary outcomes.

Completing What the English K-2 Syllabus Looks like in the Classroom will contribute 5 hours and 30 minutes of NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Accredited PD in the priority area of Delivery and Assessment of NSW Curriculum/EYLF addressing Standard Descriptor(s) 2.1.2, 2.5.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.

SPELD NSW is working to provide a safe environment for its clients, staff and visitors and we thank you in advance for your support and cooperation. We are pleased to confirm that all SPELD NSW staff are vaccinated for COVID-19.

 

If visitors to the SPELD NSW Office display any respiratory, cold or flu symptoms, they can be asked to leave the SPELD NSW office.

 

Visitors are strongly encouraged to wear a face mask when in the SPELD NSW office except when eating or drinking, communicating with a person who is deaf or hard of hearing or visibility of the visitor’s mouth is essential.

 

Professional learning attendees are also asked to contact SPELD NSW to arrange for their professional learning workshop to be rescheduled or refunded if:

 

  • they are unwell, including with any respiratory, cold or flu symptoms
  • they (or anyone in their household) have been diagnosed with COVID-19, are a COVID-19 Close Contact or suspect on reasonable ground that they have COVID-19.
  • When visitors are in the SPELD NSW office they are asked to socially distance and practice good hand hygiene.

Cancellation Policy

SPELD NSW is not required to provide refunds when participants are unable to attend a professional learning event. However, during this period where there is an increased rate of illness in the community, if a participant is unable to attend a professional learning event due to illness, SPELD NSW will offer to credit their registration fee to another professional learning event (or to a purchase from the SPELD NSW bookstore).

If SPELD NSW needs to postpone a professional learning event, due to the risk of illness or otherwise, SPELD NSW will reschedule the event to a future time and will notify attendees of the new date. (If an attendee is unable to attend the event at the new date, SPELD NSW will offer to credit their registration fee to another professional learning event (or to a purchase from the SPELD NSW bookstore)). If SPELD NSW is unable to re-schedule a professional development event, SPELD NSW will offer a full refund of the attendees’ registration fees.

Registrations to professional learning events can be transferred to another attendee. Please advise us of any changes to event attendees (including any dietary requirements).
